snappa-1449200261Determining your brand identity is one of the most important decisions that you will have to make when developing your blog.

It will set the tone of your site and will frame your words.

You will want to pull that theme to all of your branding materials, like business cards, invoices and etc.

I created my branding materials using the Markr app, which is available for free in the iTunes store.

You are able to create your logo for free using the app and then pay a fee of $7.99 for the image download. Printing is also available through their service at very reasonable rates, with free shipping on orders of over $50.

They can help you create business cards, address labels, stickers and postcards.

Any hardcopy materials that you might need for your business, with the notable exception of letterheads. A service that I highly recommend that they add to their menu.

As a blogger, I thoroughly enjoy reading books on blogging. They are usually chalk full of tips, tricks, ideas and inspirations about blogging, typically written by other successful bloggers who obviously know what they’re talking about.

Here is a list of my top 5 favourite books on blogging.

Robyn and Dean from Cape Town, South Africa are the designing couple behind The Blog Boat.

They offer wordpress and blogger themes that are all reasonably customizable for a small fee of between $10 and $20. Links to these purchases can be found in the add-ons section of their shop, here.

Look familiar?

The Lady Luck theme was once used for the Tickety Blog.

I absolutely loved it!

I had to make a few changes out of the box, like re-sizing my sidebar, but aside from that, it was go to go right after purchase.

The theme’s full width is 921 px, with a 292 px width side bar and a 550 px post area.

You can see a live preview of the theme here.

The Blog Boat

I highly recommend it and anything else that comes from The Blog Boat store, seventeen themes in total.

All are perfectly simple with complimentary colours or grayscale, respectively.

An ideal way to showcase your point of view, whether it is just your personal blog or a professional venue.

Of the nearly 8,000 themes available on Etsy, make sure you stop by at The Blog Boat to see if there is something there that suits your style and your voice.

business planning

So, you’ve decided to be an entrepreneur!! Good for you!!

You’ve taken the first step. You have an idea. But where do you go from here??

It’s a long way from the idea phase to cashing in that first million dollar check. Trust me!! So, how do you get from point A to point B.. and then to point C and D and so on??

Well, if you ask me, my friends, I would tell you that you it’s time to make a plan. More specifically, a business plan.. or a creative plan.. depending on what kind of business you’re getting yourself into.

Some might tell you that a business plan is a waste of time, but how else are you going to know when and if you are reaching your goals and business milestones if you haven’t mapped them out.

If you do nothing else, please.. please.. please.. write out a business budget. A well thought out budget will categorize and track your expenses, monthly and annually, and help to eliminate any surprises along the way.

Young woman working in creative desktop

I have been a fan of all things blog for nearly a decade and have even started one or two myself.

I love the freedom that we have to express ourselves and I adore the ability that anyone and everyone has to share those expressions with the blogosphere.

I have been a journal writer since I was 14 years old, but I find blogging to be quite different, as it is more formatted and it encourages you to hone your skills as both a writer and a creative for the world stage.

You require a sustained passion to be a blogger and an ability to keep readers coming back for more, post after post, year after year. [Read more…]

At some point in your blogging journey, you may wish to monetize you site. There are, of course, many ways in which you can do this: ad networks, affiliate sales, private advertising, sponsored posts, perhaps even by selling your own products.

In many instances, to do this you will need a media kit and predetermined ad rates.

It is always good to have this figured out ahead of time, so that you are not put on the spot should a potential sponsor contact you sometime in the future.

You could easily put together a PDF describing your social media reach and ad rates, if you so wish, but if you want to look extra professional, you may want to invest a small amount of money into an editable PSD version.

ALLISONXO1.  have 4 cute and cuddly puppy dogs. Beau, Ben, Penny, and Edie. Beau and Ben are Chihuahuas, Penny is a Husky X, and Edie is a Labrador. We love our doggies so much. They are fantastic companions and comic relief each and everyday.

2.  I have 2 cats. Taffy Cat, the Tabby, and Rusty Cat, the Himalayan. They are the best of friends and the worst of enemies all at the same time. Taffy Cat likes to claw at my thighs, while Rusty Cat likes to sleep on my face. Who could pick a favourite?

3.  I have a incredibly good looking man friend named Johnny. We have been together for nearly 6 years, and are as in love now as we were the day we met. While I work very hard from home, Johnny works like a mad man out of the house as an audio technician and as a professional musician. He is from Saskatchewan and I am from Ontario. The first time we met each other was somewhere in the middle, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, when we were both in other relationships. Now we are together, hopefully for keeps, with new and interesting challenges coming around each and every corner. Together, we can make it through whatever life has to offer and we prove that each and every day.

MY GOALS FOR 2016!!!

I believe that goal setting is important for all of us. Even more so if you are dealing with big dream ideas or looming deadlines. This can apply to fitness, money, employment, and so on.

I recommend keeping your goals simple, but not too vague, so that they are achievable and you can give yourself a pat on the back once in a while.

Like so many of us, I like to take advantage of the new year to set my own simple set of goals.

So here they are, in no particular order, my TOP TEN things that I hope to accomplish in 2016… and beyond! [Read more…]
