One thing that you will learn very quickly when trying to establish your blog is that you will have a very tough time of it if you attempt to go it alone. Networking with other influencers within your industry is a must if you want to attract readership to your space.
But how do you go about connecting with these influencers?
Most importantly, when networking you must come across as authentic or else no one is going to want to associate with you or your brand, blog, or whatever else it may be that you are attempting to promote.
Authenticity is not difficult to accomplish as long as you remember a few very simple tips.
If you are trying to attract readership to your blog or attempting to promote your product or brand, consider partnering with other bloggers or entrepreneurs from your own industry for some kind of giveaway.
This is a very valid reason to connect with others and provides you with a great opportunity to cross promote your blog or product to a wider audience.
Remember that when you are trying to network authentically, it is important that both sides reap the benefits of what is being offered.
Another way that you both network and reach a new audience is to ask for a feature of your product or review of your blog from other industry influencers.
To accomplish this, I would suggest that you extend the offer of free samples of your product in exchange for a mention in their blog/magazine/tv spot/whatever, with the hopes of reaching more of your ideal audience.
Inviting influencers to appear on your blog is another way that you can get to know the influencers in your industry, while still attracting readers to your space. The idea here is that the guest post writer will bring some of their audience over to your blog. This is usually very successful.
Perhaps there is something that you excel at (design, photography, DIY). Use your skills as a networking tool by offering an exchange of services! It’s a win/win scenario!
Seeming authentic could be as simple as extending a question to a influencer in your field. If you are including your question in an email, always remember to close with an offer to return the favour. A quick “is there anything that I can do for you?” may be the beginning of long relationship.
If there is a specific influencer that you are hoping to connect with, try extending that person an invitation to an event, like a blog conference, industry meet-up, or even something as simple as a coffee date or Google hangout!!
Always be on the lookout for the right opportunity to collaborate with other experts in your field. This is a fantastic way to network and to widen your audience. It could be a digital product, crafty project, e-course, or blog post.
Finally, don’t be too too shy to simply introduce yourself around. Whether it be on comment walls, in Facebook groups, or via email, you have to come out of your shell and reach out if you are ever going to uncover any of the fantastic opportunities that come from networking.
